there will be a program on your computer, whcih you can only run once (its usually under control panel or utilities) which will create a recovery disc for you. Write this disc and keep it in a very safe place.

depends on where you buy the computer, I bought a computer at rent a center (big mistake) and they didnt give me any with my computer. Everywhere else gives you one.
I would go back to the place where you bought it and ask. speak to a manager if you have to, these discs can save you alot of money.

In olden times….(1990's) most major manufacturers used to include a restore disk with your new computer purchase. So if it crashed or so-forth, you could put that in the CD Rom drive and it would erase/format the hard drive and reinstall the programs back in, like the 1st day you had it. Recently with newer versions of windows, ie: Me, 2000, XP and I assume Vista, you have a built in restore feature. So the major companies now don't give you a restore disk with your new purchase. If you want one or need one, you need to make a backup, so you can get the stuff already in your computer back in case of a system crash, or reinstall the whole operating system if you have a full version of the system that you are using, or take it to your nearest computer store, who has the necessary Cd's to reinstall software back in your computer.

Well I bought a Fujitsu Siemens with ME a good while back and I got a Product recovery disk with it. I recently I bought a Dell with XP and a disk was not supplied with it, but I got in contact with Dell and they sent me one on.
So if you don't get one ask for one and it will / should be supplied to you.
PS Things may have changed with Vista!?!?
