What's the Best/Data/Partition Recovery Software and Methods?

I've used Partition Magic (PM) for a while now. I used it again last night. After spending hundreds of hours ripping my cd collection to my computer, I needed more space on the drive. The sizing failed. PM sees the old drive and volume name complete with the space consumed by the data and remaining space–I'm assuming the data is still there. The operating system (WinXP) shows a drive letter but no longer displays the volume name. When you click the drive letter, XP says the drive is not yet formatted and asks you if you wish to format.

Obviously, I'd like to save this volume–the thought of re-ripping my cd collection is overwhelming. Can anyone provide insight as to the appropriate correction and/or make software suggestions. I'm leaning towards StompSoft's Recover Lost Data software based upon a website review–but I've never heard of the product before now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Peace!
