Laptop New Hard Drive no Restore CD?

Hey i'm on my ps3 because my laptop isnt working. I took it to best buy and they wanted to charge ne 130 bucks to take a look at it. I told them that first i wanted to get my files out of the laptop so they told me to buy this closure thing to ake it out. So i bought one and connected it to the desktop and didnt work..
I went back to the store and exchanged the hd closure for another one more expensive and still wasnt able to read my files. Not even the guys at geek squad could know why. I figured i have a bad hard drive and will need a new one. Therefore; can i just buy a hard drive and instal it myself… the thing is that when i bought my laptop 1 yr ago it came withou the restore cds..
Another question, how can i get my files out of the old harddrive.. i hear it spin inide the closure thing but its acting weird…
when the old hard drive is inside the laptop.. i will try to turn on, it will say windows starting.. then i get a bluch flash and the thing will start all over again

Do not continually boot your disk, don't touch the thing – it is dying and there's only so much life in it. At the moment it spins, it boots, it just can't read some of the data.

Look up "ERD Commander", torrent search or whatever. Download and burn the emergency repair disk to CD, boot from CD, copy files over network- most important files first. You may also be able to use a Linux live CD, but I can't recommend one.

Next get hold of a copy of Ghost and copy your windows installation (system restore) partition to your new drive, if your old drive holds out this long then you're doing good. You'll then need to get hold of the boot disk that can kickstart the recovery process. If you can't find it on the internet, people sometimes sell them on ebay, post to 'want it now'

If the drive doesn't hold out, just download windows and install manually over your new disk.

This process involves a lot of expensive software and I don't guarantee it will work – so you're best off using pirate copies of everything!

If you are running windows xp on the laptop insert windows xp CD and install windows on top of the old windows.
    NOTE: DO NOT FORMAT.
so all your files be saved but all programs won't work you have to re install them one by one. Good luck and Happy Holidays.
