Laptop Harddrive failed. Recover Data?

I have a Dell laptop. When the laptop is booted you get a BSOD. I took the drive out and hooked it up to a usb / laptop harddrive connector. The Drive is detected and is installed by windows. Doesn't show up in My Computer and everytime i try to open up Computer Management to see disk condition it freezes up the computer. Most of the time the drive does not click but once and awhile it makes a clicking noise.

Is there anyway to recover the data on the harddrive?

I'm really desperate and I cant afford to send to a data recovery center at the moment.

The Harddrive is a IBM 30gb 4200rpm drive which i put a new one in laptop. All i want is the data off this drive

Believe it or not if the drive isn’t totally crashed (Platters touching grinding etc.)and will still spin up put it in an zip lock bag then in the freezer for 20 min. then try the data transfer also if you have a long enough cord on your usb adapter you can leave it in the cold while you get that one last transfer out of it. The cold will help keep the parts from expanding due to heat and just might save you those $$$. I’ve used this on my clients crashed drives multiple times with about 75% success
