I do not have a floppy disk drive and I would like to wipe my hard-drive and re-install winxp operating system?

Does anyone know, seriously, of a way to do this without a floppy disk drive? I do not have the ‘recovery disk’ and my operating system disk won’t let me re-install with that either because it is a service pack 1 and I’m running service pack 2 xp. I don’t want to do a system restore. This comp was someone elses and I would like to wipe it and make it mine.

I suggest you purchase a recovery CD that is specific to whatever the information you want to recover are programed under (XP), and either do it yourself, or get a professional to recover your hard-drive.

You need to get a Boot CD if you don’t have a floppy disk.

You shouldn’t need a floppy drive. What is the operating system disk you have, is it a installation cd. If so, what you have on the computer should not matter, because you are removing it. You just put in the cd, reboot the computer, and boot from the cd, reformat and install.

Ok obviously you dont have a floppy disk so the only way to do a fresh install would be to get a geniune clean copy of windows xp sp2. You would then need to go to your manufactures website and download all the recommded drivers for your computer/laptop (note getting the drivers is important) make sure you make a backup of eveything you need or wish to save. Doing a fresh install will delete everything and give you a clean install at the end, you will then need to update to SP3. Once all drivers are installed there thats pretty much everything.

you first have to go into BIOS and make the cd drive a boot device and make it a boot option before the hdd. then restart. when the computer comes on, after bios but before the winxp startup screen there should be a press any key to boot from cd. press any key. this will bring you into windows setup. wait for it to load and select install xp and not to recover. once you get the set up xp drive screen, select the hdd that you want to wipe with the arrow keys and press d, then enter and then l. then, when you are back on the dirve screen, set up xp on the selected drive. it will take a while and you will need your xp product key. once setup is done, you can “make it your own” by putting on your personal programs and files. WARNING: when you delete the partition, it will erase everything-MAKE BACKUPS!!!

To wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP you shouldnt need a floppy unless you are installing to a SATA hard drive.

The recovery floppy will not wipe your hard drive.

Get your computer to boot to CD first, inset WinXP CD, and restart follow onscreen instructions.

    Good luck
