yesterday i used my sony vaio recovery disks to reinstall the factory settings..well about 2 mins after using the third recovery cd a message appeared that said "unknown error occured the recovery utility will now stop your system may not work properly"…so now when i turn on my computer it just says"couldnt find ntldr error loading operating system"…all i deleted was drive C but the data i need is still on drive D…I DID NOT DELETE DRIVE D….is there any program that i can use to boot from a cd to get my data back thats on drive D…PLEASE HELP!!!!
If you didn't touch the D drive, and its a physical drive not a partition (i.e. you have TWO harddrives, not one split into two partitions) the data is still there, so you have a few options: -
1) unplug the drive and plug it into someone elses computer and then copy the files from that to thiers
2) reinstall the C drive, as long as you dont touch the D drive its fine, it'll be there as it hasn't been altered
3) get a copy of windows that is the same as what you had (Go by your licence, it is legal IF you use the same version as your licence and use your licence key written on the sticket thats on your computer) you may however need an OEM version (A pc shop or the web is your best bet for these or ask the people who sold you it)
Install that to C and then D is accessable, but make sure NOT to install it on the D drive
If on the otherhand its one drive in two partitions you can either use a LIVE cd of Linux (Try ubuntu or something like that) and copy the files if the other partition is still intact
OR
Take it to a shop and ask for help but they'll probably charge you
Anything else email me!
