Can I repair my windows XP using recovery cd?

I have a recovery CD for my laptop, but when I open it, there is no option to repair. Only to install the windows again, but I don’t want to lose all of my data in my computer.

Do this, buy an external hard-drive, with at least the same size as your laptop hard drive. (I recomend taking the laptop's drive, and adding 50% to it, to get the size for the external drive). Back up your entire hard drive to the external drive. Reformat your laptop using the CD. Install windows updates. Re-install applications. Copy back data.

If you cannot access your drive currently, take it to a PC repair store.

You also have the option to save all of your personal data by uploading to any web space you may have, if you have any. It's always good to have your stuff backed up either way but if you store it somewhere besides your home or office (wherever your computer resides) you won't have to worry about theft, fire, hurricanes or tornadoes. Just tryin to get ya thinkin.
