can i partition the hard disk of my laptop and use my recovery disc (vista) to install it on one partition?
i have a hp pavilion laptop (special edition) that runs vista. the hard disc is 250 GB. i plan to divide it into 2 partition. can i still use my recovery disc to install it on one partition? and install windows xp on the other partition?

No you cannot do recovery disc. To divide your hard drive into 2 partition, you need to delete it first and create 2 partition. Deleting your partition will not allow you to use recovery disk. You can only reinstall your previous Operating System.

Probably not, the recovery disk on about 75% of them take it back to factory default, partitions and all, and some do what you want, but you’re only gonna find out the hard way the 1st time. The safe way that works everytime is to shrink it, create a partition in the space. Then many dual boot type of mbr things will change whats called the drive sig and Vista won’t boot until you put the old one back, and if you didn’t check before you started, you’re hosed!
